A new algorithm for computing Groebner bases
نویسندگان
چکیده
Buchberger’s algorithm for computing Gröbner bases was introduced in 1965, and subsequently there have been extensive efforts in improving its efficiency. Major algorithms include F4 (Faugère 1999), XL (Courtois et al. 2000) and F5 (Faugère 2002). F5 is believed to be the fastest algorithm known in the literature. Most recently, Gao, Guan and Volny (2010) introduced an incremental algorithm (G2V) that is two to ten times faster than F5. In this paper, a new algorithm is presented that matches Buchberger’s algorithm in simplicity and yet is more flexible than G2V. Given a list of polynomials, the new algorithm computes simultaneously a Gröbner basis for the ideal generated by the polynomials and a Gröbner basis for the leading terms of the syzygy module of the polynomials. For any term order for the ideal, one may vary the term order for the syzygy module. Under one term order for the syzygy module, the new algorithm specializes to the G2V algorithm, and under another term order for the syzygy module, the new algorithm may be several times faster than G2V, as indicated by computer experiments on benchmark examples.

A new algorithm for computing SAGBI bases up to an arbitrary degree
We present a new algorithm for computing a SAGBI basis up to an arbitrary degree for a subalgebra generated by a set of homogeneous polynomials. Our idea is based on linear algebra methods which cause a low level of complexity and computational cost. We then use it to solve the membership problem in subalgebras.
متن کاملComputing Polycyclic Quotients of Finitely (L-)Presented Groups via Groebner Bases
We announce the development and implementation of a new GAP package PCQL. This facilitates the computation of consistent polycyclic presentations for polycyclic quotients of groups defined by a so-called finite L-presentation. This type of presentation incorporates all finite presentations as well as certain infinite presentations. The algorithm allows a variety of polycyclic quotients ranging ...
متن کاملA P-SPACE Algorithm for Groebner Bases Computation in Boolean Rings
The theory of Groebner Bases, which has recently been honored with the ACM Paris Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award, has become a crucial building block to computer algebra, and is widely used in science, engineering, and computer science. It is wellknown that Groebner bases computation is EXP-SPACE in a general setting. In this paper, we give an algorithm to show that Groebner bases computat...
متن کاملComputing Groebner Bases in the Boolean Setting with Applications to Counting
We take advantage of the special structure of computations in Z2 to develop algorithms for the computation of Groebner bases and of the Hilbert function in the Boolean setting. Natural sources of applications for our algorithms are the counting problems. We focus, as a case study, on the computation of the permanent. To this regard, one good feature of the Groebner approach is that, unlike othe...

متن کاملGroebner Bases in Non-Commutative Algebras
INTRODUCTION Recently, the use of Groebner bases and Buchberger algorithm [BUC1,2,4] has been generalised from the case of commutative polynomials to finitely generated algebras R over a field k, R = k, s.t. for each i < j, for some cij ∈ k, for some commutative polynomial pij ∈ k[X1,...,Xn], one has xj xi cij xi xj = pij(x1,...,xn). The first results in this direction were due to Ga...
